On Admission Day
  • When you arrive our friendly reception staff will attend to your admission paperwork. We will confirm your details with you

  • We will issue you with an armband and check that your name and date of birth are correct

  • We will ask you for the name and contact number of the person who will be picking you up

  • One of our specialist nursing team will then take you through to be admitted

Important Information

  • Do NOT eat or drink for 6 (six) hours prior to your admission time

  • Do NOT smoke or chew gum

  • Do NOT wear jewellery, make-up or nail polish

  • Do NOT bring valuables as GCEH does not accept responsibility for the loss of your items brought into the hospital

  • Take your essential morning medication with minimal water unless otherwise instructed by your Doctor (e.g. Diabetic Medication)

  • If you are unsure of anything, please discuss this with the nurse during your pre-admission phone call, or your Doctor prior to your admission date

  • Bring any medication that you are advised to take whilst in the post-surgery recovery period

  • Have a shower and wash/dry your hair

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing preferably with buttons at the front with a loose neckline

  • If you wear a hearing aid, please leave it in place

  • If you have false teeth or dentures, please leave in place

Patient Identification

What You Need To Bring

  • Your Medicare card, health insurance card or pension card

  • Money to pay for your surgery as per your quote if you haven’t already prepaid for your procedure. (we accept mastercard/visa/debit cards, cash and bank cheques)

  • You do not need to bring your medications with you unless you are on insulin or any other diabetic medication that needs to be taken at a specific time or if you are on any other medication that must be taken during your stay. Our pre admission nurse will discuss this with you prior to your surgery day

Patient Identification

  • You will wear an identification band (generally on your wrist) to assist staff in making sure we have the correct patient

  • Do not remove your identification band

  • Staff will check your details with you and with other members of staff several times during your visit at GCEH

  • These checks are in place to ensure that you receive the highest quality medical care and that all care is taken by our staff to ensure your safety during your stay with us

  • It is important that you assist us with these steps to ensure your well-being

  • We understand that this can be a tedious process

On Discharge

On Discharge

  • The discharge process begins during your admission to Gold Coast Eye Hospital with our comprehensive care approach to day surgery

  • It is essential that you have a nominated relative or carer to accompany you home following your procedure

  • We recommend that this person stays with you for at least 24 hours after surgery

  • If you have undergone an anaesthetic, you are NOT allowed to operate a vehicle for at least 24 hours following your procedure
